A decent picture of me (taken in college).
I'm an alumnus of the University of California at Davis (UCDavis), where I got my bachelor's degree (I have my degree, now where's the bachelor?), in biochemistry. I'm now working on my doctorate in developmental biology at Baylor College of Medicine.
(Psst! Don't have a clue what "developmental biology" means? Here are a couple of resources:)
Baylor College of Medicine's Program in Developmental Biology home page - This is my graduate program. It's got a nice little blurb on the history of the field of developmental biology.
My own embryo collection - Developmental biology deals mostly, although not exclusively, with embryos, which is why you may hear it called "embryology", although that's a pretty limited description of what developmental biology can cover. I know you know what an embryo is, so here are some of my favorites, along with descriptions of what it is you're looking at.
My real dream, however, is to become an astronaut. No really, I mean it! After I get my Ph.D. (pronounced "fud"), I intend to apply to NASAs Astronaut Training Program. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
For those of you computer geeks who do the MU* thing, you may have had the opportunity to meet my Lynn persona on GlobalMUSH, which is my primary hangout, when I have the time to hang out at all.
So what keeps me so busy? When I'm not doing the grad school thang, I can usually be found playing. I love to go out and play with my friends, like catch a flick, play pool, go dancing, etc. I'm a softball junkie and a racquetball fanatic. Throw in some tennis, swimming, and bowling (yes, bowling!), and you have a veritable buffet of fun. I also enjoy some of the more recumbent leisure activities, like reading, watching tv, listening to music, or simply enjoying a beer and some sun while lying in the hammock in my front yard.
I recently had the good fortune to be able to buy a small house in Houston, with a lovely back yard full of flowering weeds which I almost immediately occupied with the dog I always wanted. Pablo is my 50-lb-and-still-growing Rottweiler bundle-of-love. Not that I don't still adore my cat, Hamlet.
Here are some pictures of my house and zoo (under construction):
